Vision Preparatory Charter School
Substitute Teacher Duties and Responsibilities

At Vision Prep, we value seamless instruction transitions which foster safety, security, and high expectations for scholars. To create an encouraging learning environment at Vision Preparatory Charter School when their regular Lead Teacher is absent, the Substitute Teacher will effectively engage, manage, and instruct the class. Tasks include but are not limited to taking attendance and assisting with class work.

Substitute Teacher duties include managing classroom behavior, quickly interpreting lesson plans, and communicating with the Lead Teacher to update them on scholar progress during their absence.

Substitute Teacher duties and responsibilities also include:

  • Following lesson plans provided by the Lead Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for scholars.
  • Following schoolwide systems and routines including the Vision Prep FIRST core values (Focus, Integrity, Respect, Self-Determination, and Teamwork).
  • Managing the classroom effectively to encourage scholar participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Adapting teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual scholar.
  • Supervising scholars in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria.
  • Providing in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan.
  • For long-term substitutes: developing lesson plans and assignments consistent with the Lead Teacher’s past lesson plans.
