Job Description: Assistant Principal of Administration

Background: Libertas is a public charter school serving the Frayser neighborhood in Memphis. Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love. We offer a rich, rigorous, and personalized liberal arts education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori, with an attachment village of wraparound family supports. We currently serve birth through 5th grade; run an infant/toddler day care center; operate a nationally-accredited, state-licensed teacher training program; and are preparing to launch a middle school in 2024. Role Summary and Information

  • Responsible for day-to-day school program leadership, staff culture, employee relations and “customer service” for our staff and families.
  • Full-time role. School year plus two weeks.
  • Start Date: March 2024 strongly preferred, but no later than June 2024.
  • School hours 7:35-3:30 (Wednesdays until 4:30). Regular leadership and coaching meetings. Also responsible for things outside of regular hours (e.g. early morning substitute teacher assignments, urgent staff support needs, etc.).
  • Reports to: Principal
  • Supervises: Dean of Family Engagement; before and after school program leaders; enrichment teachers; aids principal and program directors with management and supervision of teachers, assistants, and other school staff

Measures of Success

  • Faculty retention
  • 85% faculty satisfaction and overall engagement on bi-annual survey
  • Ensure family engagement team meets goals for enrollment, attendance, PreK compliance, and family satisfaction
  • Staff satisfaction with operations help desk responsiveness/resolution
  • Staff compliance with all applicable rules and policies
  • Satisfactory performance evaluations

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day School Administration

  • Working closely with Principal, lead day-to-day school program operations: implementation of daily schedule, staff absence management, substitute assignments, arrival and dismissal procedures, daily transitions, etc.
  • Supervise leaders of before and after school programs and enrichment programs to ensure successful implementation.

Customer Service

  • Ensure quality customer service for our staff and stakeholders. Address questions, concerns, complaints; coordinate resolution with responsible individuals, departments, or vendors; ensure that they are resolved in a positive and satisfactory manner.
  • Cultivate, coach, and empower subsidiary leaders to effectively run their teams and meet their goals.
  • Provide communication to stakeholders about our school program; collaborate with operations team to effectively communicate about school operations.
  • Spearhead special projects when needed and ensure they are on track to milestones

Staff Culture & Employee Relations

  • Support program directors and other leaders in promoting and facilitating positive adult culture in line with our school mission and virtue framework.
  • Plan and lead staff engagement and appreciation initiatives.
  • Communicate with employees as individuals and as a group about initiatives, plans, policies, procedures, compensation, benefits, job assignments, etc.
  • Prepare and train staff to handle interpersonal conflicts appropriately and professionally. Facilitate resolution and restoration when escalated adult conflicts arise.
  • Hold staff members accountable for policies (e.g. attendance, timeliness, dress code, collegiality, etc.). Implement employee discipline as needed.
  • Ensure thorough and effective on-boarding of mid-year hires.

Family Engagement

  • Oversee Dean of Family Engagement to ensure proactive plans are in place to meet goals for enrollment, attendance, family engagement, events, PreK compliance, and health services.
  • In collaboration with the Family Engagement and Attachment Village teams, meet with families when escalated concerns or disagreements arise
  • Other Duties as Assigned

  • Substantial, multiple years of effective leadership experience in a high-need or underserved community.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

Compensation

  • Salary: $65,000 to $75,000 base salary plus $5,000 annual salary stipend for early morning absence and sub management. (Potential additional $3000 to $8000 for serving as Summer Programs Principal based on interest, qualification, and program needs.)
  • Eligible for salary increases for performance or stipends for additional duties.
