Introducing: CodeCrew Professional Development

You may know of CodeCrew as a nonprofit organization that mentors and serves youth
from K-12 through adults. However, you might not know that CodeCrew also serves
teachers. Since its inception, Codecrew has always worked with teachers to enhance
Computer Science education in Memphis. Meka Egwuekwe worked tirelessly to promote
CS education across the state of Tennessee. Now that the Computer Science education
mandate has passed, CodeCrew has responded to the increasing need for teachers to
be equipped to incorporate CS education in their classrooms. That’s where we come in.

I’m Dr. Ayanna Perkins, born, raised, and educated in Memphis, Tennessee, and as a
former teacher with MSCS, I continue my commitment to education as a Teacher PD
facilitator. Danielle Jones, our PD content creator with over 10 years of industry
experience as a software developer, designs fun, hands-on experiences that promote
computational thinking. The PD director, Dr. Darius James, is a former Computer
Science teacher with MSCS.

Reasons why you should have us at your school:

1. We come to you. We are based in Memphis, TN, where we support teachers in their
classrooms.

2. We offer a variety of options from exposure events to Professional Development
packages; we will work with you to determine what PD fits your needs and budget.

3. We are building a community of curious and creative teachers who like to tinker and
learn something new! Join us for one of our FREE tinker sessions in collaboration with
CSTA. Sign up for our next tinker sessions.

Even better, we are curriculum and device-agnostic. We can consult your school to use
devices you have already purchased, or consult you on resources to implement a CS
curriculum at any budget.

If you would like to be a STEM-designated school, then we would especially like to
work with you! Learn more about us or schedule a 1:1 meeting today!
