Position Overview: The Director of School Operations (DOSO) is a senior leadership role responsible for leading and executing all non-instructional operations of Beacon College Prep, including K–5 and Pre-K operations, to ensure the school runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently. The DOSO owns operational strategy, systems, and execution that enable high-quality instruction, strong family engagement, and a joyful school culture.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Director on schoolwide and Pre-K operational planning, execution, and scale
- Lead, coach, and manage the Family Engagement Coordinator and operations team with clear goals, accountability, and development
- Design, implement, and continuously improve operational systems that support instructional priorities, attendance, enrollment, and staffing stability
- Use operational and compliance data to assess effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
- Lead planning and execution of major schoolwide initiatives and operational priorities
School Operations
- Oversee daily school operations to ensure a safe, efficient, and joyful experience for scholars and families
- Manage compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee arrival and dismissal systems, including staffing plans, safety protocols, traffic flow, and family communication
- Secure, manage, and deploy substitute teachers and coverage plans to ensure instructional continuity
- Oversee front office operations, scheduling, and operational calendars
- Lead planning and execution of schoolwide events, orientations, family engagement events, recruitment activities, and community events
- Ensure clear, timely, and culturally responsive communication with students and families related to operations and school logistics
- Oversee transportation systems and vendor relationships to ensure safe and reliable service
- Manage and oversee the Food Service Management Company (FSMC), ensuring compliance with federal nutrition requirements and contract expectations
- Monitor food service quality, reimbursement processes, and operational alignment with school needs
- Develop, maintain, and oversee the school’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), ensuring compliance with local and state requirements
- Ensure implementation, training, documentation, and reporting for all required safety drills and emergency preparedness activities (fire, lockdown, evacuation, severe weather)
Enrollment & Attendance Accountability
- Oversee enrollment, re-enrollment, lotteries, onboarding, withdrawals, and transfers for K–5
- Ensure enrollment data is accurate, compliant, and maintained within the Student Information System (SIS)
- Own and manage schoolwide attendance and truancy processes in compliance with state and district requirements
- Ensure accurate attendance tracking, reporting, documentation, notices, meetings, and referrals
HR Compliance & Operations
- Support compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain audit-ready documentation across all operational and compliance domains
- Oversee operational aspects of hiring, onboarding, staffing records, and compliance
- Verify, document, and maintain educator licensure, endorsements, background checks, and required credentials
- Maintain and monitor staff PTO systems, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation
Finance & Budget Management
- Manage Title I budgets and reimbursements in alignment with compliance requirements and school priorities
- Oversee purchasing, procurement, vendor contracts, and cost controls
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Support budgeting and financial tracking
- Ensure fiscal systems and practices support sustainability and responsible stewardship
- Own the development, issuance, and execution of all RFPs and RFQs related to operations, facilities, vendors, and services
Facilities, Technology & Learning Environment
- Oversee facility operations, cleanliness, security, and preventive maintenance
- Manage custodial staff and/or vendors to ensure all spaces are safe, clean, and instructional-ready
- Own and manage the Student Information System (SIS) from an operational and compliance perspective
- Ensure secure and compliant management of student cumulative files (physical and digital)
- Partner with the Executive Director on facility readiness and long-term planning
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in school operations, administration, or a related field.
- Proven track record in securing grants and managing donor relationships.
- Experience managing teams and leading cross-functional projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and implement efficient operational systems.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proactive problem solver
Salary & Benefits:
The Director of School Operations position offers a competitive salary starting at $75,000, with final compensation based on experience and demonstrated impact in similar roles.
