Position Summary

As a Literacy Instruction Specialist (“LIS”) of Believe Memphis Academy Charter School (“Believe Memphis Academy” or “the School”), this person will oversee the literacy intervention program of the School. The LIS will take the lead in developing and implementing the Response to Instruction and Intervention of literacy. The LIS will report directly to the Principal or Designee (“Principal”), receiving regular feedback and coaching around his or her instructional and leadership capacity.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the school’s Mission and vision.
  • At minimum 3 years’ experience in the classroom with a proven track record of high achievement of students, preferably in a predominantly low-income school setting.
  • Unwavering belief in the potential that all students can be successful when given appropriate, responsive supports and an unshakeable conviction that it is our responsibility to ensure children receive those supports.
  • Ability to plan and deliver high quality reading instruction in a rigorous, structured, and joyful classroom.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced and dynamic team environment where responsibility for student success is shared and owned by everyone.
  • Commitment to solutions-based problem solving.
  • Expertise and love of reading content and instruction.
  • Strong expertise on best practices of teaching, based on study of high-achieving, high-poverty schools.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the design, organization, and communication of high-quality literacy intervention lessons plans, using school-wide literacy curriculum as well as the Tier III Literacy Intervention curriculum. LIS will work with Principal to create a scope and sequence for instruction and intervention of literacy across the School.
  • Own the organization for the literacy curriculum, working with literacy content chairs in each grade as a collaborator.
  • LIS will work with the Student Supports Team and Instructional Team to ensure all students at every level of literacy receive high-quality instruction optimized for their development and mastery.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to lead professional development sessions, as determined by the Principal.
  • Support the planning and leading of Data Analysis Meeting days (3-4x yearly) for teachers to reflect on student achievement data on beginning of year, interim, and summative/end of year assessments and lead teachers in creating analysis and instructional plans accordingly.
  • Take an active role in building positive student and team culture of the entire School, every minute of every day that is aligned to Mission, vision, and core values of Believe Memphis Academy.
  • Implement regularly shared feedback with grace and urgency for the betterment of student achievement, promoting positive school culture, and upholding professional team culture.
  • Communicate respectfully and collaboratively with families on a consistent basis.
  • Work collaboratively within a team to implement instructional and cultural plans that support the Mission and vision of the School.
  • Demonstrate a Mission-first mindset to ensure all decisions and actions are rooted in ensuring all students are prepared to excel in high school, thrive and college, and lead lives of excellence.
