About Us:

Beacon College Prep opened in 2020 with two kindergarten and one first-grade class in the Raleigh area of Memphis and has since grown to educate 360 scholars in grades K-5.  The school was founded on the belief that all students, regardless of their previous education or the zip code they were born into, can learn and achieve at high levels when held to the highest expectations. Reports to: Executive Director

Position Overview: Beacon College Prep is transitioning to a co-principal model, this role will oversee grades 3-5 and the other overseeing grades K-2. Each Co-Principal serves as the primary instructional leader for their assigned grade band, leading teacher coaching, academic strategy, and scholar support while ensuring alignment with school-wide priorities.

The Co-Principals Work Collaboratively To:

  • Ensure consistent instructional excellence across all grades.
  • Develop and support teachers through structured coaching cycles.
  • Create and sustain a rigorous, engaging, and joyful school culture.
  • Align intervention and scholar support systems to drive achievement.
  • Ensure data-driven instruction and assessment analysis to guide scholar progress.
  • Each Co-Principal tailors leadership to their grade band’s unique academic and developmental needs while ensuring shared school-wide goals are met.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To: 

Shared Responsibilities with Co-Principal (K-2)

  • Serve as the primary instructional leader for the assigned grade band.
  • Set and track school-wide academic goals, ensuring rigorous instruction and high scholar engagement.
  • Lead weekly coaching cycles with teachers to strengthen instructional planning and execution.
  • Oversee curriculum implementation, ensuring alignment with state standards and Beacon’s academic vision.
  • Develop and execute weekly professional development sessions for teachers.
  • Analyze scholar performance data through weekly data meetings to inform instructional decisions and intervention planning.
  • Ensure that all assessments (formative, interim, and summative) are used effectively to drive instruction and intervention.
  • Partner with the Executive Director on staff hiring, development, and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal academic regulations.

Co-Principal (3-5) Specific Responsibilities:

Upper Elementary Literacy, Math, and Content Mastery:

  • Lead instructional coaching in Wit & Wisdom, ensuring teachers implement high-quality literacy instruction that deepens reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing.
  • Oversee math instruction, ensuring scholars master fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving.
  • Strengthen content-area literacy across subjects, ensuring scholars engage in rigorous academic discussions and writing.
  • Ensure scholars receive targeted intervention and acceleration strategies to support high achievement across all subjects.
  • Prepare scholars for state assessments by supporting teachers in aligning instruction to grade-level expectations.

Literacy Commitment Law Implementation:

  • Ensure all 3rd-grade scholars meet the state’s Literacy Commitment Law requirements for reading proficiency.
  • Support teachers in implementing intensive reading interventions for scholars at risk of retention.
  • Oversee early identification and monitoring of scholars needing additional literacy support, ensuring families are informed and engaged in the process.
  • Analyze scholar progress using iReady, aimsWeb, and state assessment data, ensuring all 3rd-grade scholars receive necessary intervention supports.

Teacher Coaching & Development:

  • Conduct weekly coaching cycles with 3rd-5th grade teachers, providing direct feedback on instruction and lesson execution.
  • Lead weekly content team meetings to analyze scholar performance data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Ensure that 3rd-5th grade teachers are effectively scaffolding instruction to build scholar independence and critical thinking skills.
  • Provide targeted coaching on higher-order questioning and engagement strategies to deepen scholar thinking.

Data-Driven Instruction & Analysis:

  • Lead weekly data analysis meetings with teachers to ensure instruction is responsive to scholar needs.
  • Oversee progress monitoring of state testing benchmarks to inform teacher planning and intervention decisions.
  • Ensure scholars receive targeted support in math and literacy based on real-time data insights.

Scholar & Family Support:

  • Guide 3rd-5th grade teachers in preparing scholars for middle school readiness, emphasizing academic habits and SEL development.
  • Support the behavior interventionist in implementing structured behavior support systems that foster scholar leadership and accountability.
  • Support 3rd-5th grade families in understanding assessment results and providing strategies for home-based learning support.

Compliance and Operations

  • Ensure academic compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions and scholar supports.
  • Oversee compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and English Language Learner (ELL) services to ensure scholars receive appropriate support.
  • Align instructional and operational priorities with the Executive Director to maintain a safe, efficient learning environment.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Valid Tennessee Teaching License required
  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • Proven track record of driving high academic achievement in a K-5 setting, preferably in a charter or high-performing school
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of instructional leadership experience (e.g., Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Instruction, or equivalent)
  • Deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and data-driven decision-making
  • Experience in coaching and developing teachers and leaders to improve scholar outcomes.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with staff, scholars, and families to sustain a positive school culture.
  • Experience overseeing state and district testing is preferred
  • Experience in an urban public school is preferred but not required
  • Reflective, analytical leader who makes data-based decisions
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proactive problem solver

Salary & Benefits:  The Co-Principal (3-5) position offers a competitive salary of $100,000–$110,000, based on experience.
