Dean of Operations | Cornerstone Prep School (Cottonwood/Parkway Village)
Model:
Currently serving 1,400 students in prekindergarten-8th grade as part of Tennessee Public Charter School Commission (the Commission), CEG equips all students with the Wisdom and Knowledge necessary to succeed in college and to become leaders in their community. With more than a decade of charter school experience in Memphis, CEG provides a distinctive, quality public education to low-income families in Memphis’ Binghampton, Frayser, Parkway Village and surrounding communities. CEG’s structure, perspective, methods, and systems are based on successful urban schools around the country and includes:
- Intense focus on the core subjects: reading and math
- More time learning created by an extended school day
- Standards-based lesson plans, curriculum, and assessments
- Intentional character and leadership development
- Early dismissal on Fridays for planning and professional development
- Full behavior teams, counselors, a nurse and three academic coaches to support classroom teachers
- Opportunities for educators to have leadership roles in which they can lead and serve as grade chairs and master teachers
Results from TN Ready Assessments:
- Lester Prep earned a TVAAS 5, the highest score the state gives to a school, for a record 3 years in a row
- Cornerstone Prep Denver received a TVAAS 5 for three of the past four years
- Cornerstone Prep Denver earned the highest overall proficiency rate in the entire district, making it the highest performing school in the ASD and setting the ASD record for highest overall rate of proficiency in math ever recorded
- Lester Prep tied the ASD record for the highest middle school math score ever in the district
- CEG had the highest performing school in the district for the fourth consecutive year
- Since 2012, CEG has successfully launched two elementary schools and one middle school, has launched a 4th school in the fall of 2022, has set ASD records for math achievement and 3 consecutive years of TVAAS 5 growth, has earned priority school exit status by turning around the lowest performing school in the state, and has scored in the 90th percentile in growth for 3 years in a row on a nationally recognized test.

Job Expectations:
- Serves as a member of the school Leadership Team
- Works with the School LT to create and execute school-wide systems that lead to the achievement of school specific goals and the organization’s mission.
- Ensures strong systematic and strategic planning to improve staff effectiveness and improve academic outcomes for
students. - Leads by example the joy, urgency, and value of educating students and working with students, families, and community members.
- Attends Leadership Team Meetings, Re-Set Meetings, Professional Development Meetings and work the in the summer and over breaks as needed to get the campus ready for the following school year
- Work with the CMO to create a replicable plan for maintaining a campus efficiently and effectively
- Serves as an immediate backup for Principal and/or Dean of Culture if needed
- Support school culture with a lens for physical space and execution of systems, which may include:
- Daily walkthroughs of shared spaces as hallways, libraries, gyms, etc. to audit building wide
systems

- Provide feedback to Leadership Team and/or teachers which stems from walkthroughs and audits
- Develop, Revise and Supervise Execution of School-wide Systems which may include:
- Daily systems such as Arrival/Breakfast, Tardy, Lunch, Transitions and Dismissal
- Regular systems such as supply replacement and classroom set up, furniture and materials
- Schedule and execute all building drills and safety checks, including Monthly and annual Emergency Management Drills
- Oversee field trip procedures
- Support Office and Administrative Staff and tasks within their per-view which include:
- Office Manager, Office Assistant, Receptionist, Nurse, Substitute Teachers, and Teacher’s Assistants
- Supervise Interns and other community partners who work in the school building
- Manage school facility and operations which will include:
- Making attempts to fix basic issues surrounding building maintenance and/or repairs
- Responsible for arranging and overseeing the completion of building maintenance, repairs, and construction projects
- Oversee and coordinate with contracted services, including custodial services, food service and building maintenance
- Coordinate school events and building use before, during, and after school hours
- Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the building reflects the values of the organization
- Use breaks in the calendar to re-set the building to “like new” condition
- Coordinate community partners and volunteers on various projects and programs which may include:
- During and after-school tutoring programs
- Volunteer groups who come on service projects
- Individual volunteers who would like to serve in other capacities
- Serve as the Building Test Coordinator which may include:
- Build and execute testing plan for school
- Maintain office supplies and equipment which may include:
- Placing order for standard classroom and office supplies on a weekly basis
- Stocking and organizing supply closets and paper supplies to copiers on a weekly basis
- Communicating to staff members regarding the status supplies and office equipment as needed
- Setting up accounts at common vendors
- Calling for repairs on copy machines and other office equipment
Facility Transition and Renovation Management:
- Coordinate logistics for classroom, office, and equipment moves, ensuring minimal disruption to school operations
- Work with COO to develop and maintain detailed timelines and communication plans to ensure all stakeholders are informed and prepared
- Conduct regular inspections during renovation to ensure organizational priorities, timelines, and expectations are met
- Identify opportunities for facility improvements and propose solutions to COO aligned with the school’s mission
- Work with COO to document lessons learned and create guidelines to streamline future transition or renovation processes
Secondary Responsibilities
- Maintain data/information records required for school, district, state, and/or federal audits or requests or information
- Serve as a problem-solving thought partner for all staff members
Requirements
- Willingness to be a team player and at times take on duties above and beyond those listed
- Organized and detail oriented
- Ability to communicate well via email, on the phone and in-person
- Basic understanding of building maintenance and vendor management
- Ability to meet goals and deadlines
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage adults in completing the projects
- Belief that there is not a more urgent task than to provide an outstanding education to students from low- income, urban backgrounds
