Frayser Community Schools is a neighborhood charter passionately serving the Frayser neighborhood through Westside Middle School. Our mission is to elevate students for success by raising academic rigor, building trauma informed schools, and facilitating genuine parent engagement. Teachers are entrusted with advancing the mission and vision of Frayser Community Schools. Reporting to the Principal, all teachers are responsible for the development and execution of a standards-aligned curriculum, continuous improvement of instructional practices, and collaboration with other staff to meet the needs of the school.

Job Description:

The Dean of Students is primarily responsible for ensuring a positive, structured, and safe environment, character development, and behavioral growth for students at Frayser Community Schools. The Dean of Students also enforces the Anti-Racism Initiative and Student Code of Conduct. The Dean of Students coordinates school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (SWPBIS), meets with students regularly for mentorship, offer students correction and accountability necessary for personal growth, and collaborates/communicates with families often. The Dean of Students is responsible for ensuring the culture of the school creates conditions that are conducive for effective teaching and learning. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of progressive discipline, restorative practices, and the ability to build respectful relationships with families, students, and community partners; as well as, serve the school as a member of the administration team. The Dean of Students will work directly with the Director of Student Support, Hall Monitors, Assistant Principals, and the school Principal; as well as, with the Restorative Practices Specialist, Professional School Counselor(s), School Social Workers, and Special Education Lead, as part of a team of practitioners to provide excellent service to our school community.

Description of Duties:

  • Work closely with administration team to establish a positive, joyful, and achievement-oriented school culture vision and plan
  • Facilitate teacher training and support around relationships, proactive positive culture, expectations, consistency, and classroom management
  • Coordinate and implement a school-wide positive behavior incentives and support management system with meaningful and logical incentives and consequences
  • Create the vision and oversee the execution of school-wide culture and school events
  • Serve as the point person for two grade levels for breaches of culture, including Saturday School, detention, out-of-school suspensions, in-school suspensions, remand, and parent re-entry meetings for students
  • Plan, lead and oversee an effective RTI(B)/MTSS, in collaboration with the Director of Student Support
  • Develop behavior contracts and collaborate with appropriate school personnel regarding the functional behavior assessment and behavior support (intervention) plan processes
  • Document pertinent student information in Branching Minds and/or PowerSchool for network/state reporting purposes
  • Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs, classroom observations and audits to help staff maintain a high bar of excellence
  • Supervise school entry, breakfast, lunch, hall transitions, and dismissal to ensure they are safe and positive
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and external agencies
  • Support and collaborate with team of practitioners weekly
  • Schedule and conduct school-wide community meetings, as necessary
  • Fill in for class coverage, as needed, in the event of a coverage gap
  • Serve as an active member of the School Administration Team, meeting weekly for strategic planning and discussion of school initiatives and data
