Position Overview: Empower Memphis Career and College Prep is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Head of Schools. The incumbent will provide strategic direction, instructional leadership, and operational oversight to ensure the academic success and holistic development of all students and staff. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

Instructional Leadership

  • Lead the school community with excellence to ensure exceptional student preparation for college;
  • Exhibit an unwavering dedication to enhancing the intellectual and personal growth of students both within and beyond the educational setting;
  • Craft and convey strategic frameworks for school systems, fostering a cohesive culture and articulating a clear vision, with plans to realize it;
  • Deploy efficient assessment methodologies and leverage data for informed decision-making;
  • Oversee all facets of curriculum enhancement and evaluation, ensuring coherence across the educational spectrum and adherence to rigorous standards at both state and national levels.

Performance Management Leadership

  • Conduct daily classroom observations and offer immediate feedback to drive student achievement;
  • Supervise faculty and staff, managing recruitment, evaluation, retention, and disciplinary actions, while spearheading professional growth initiatives, staff evaluations, curriculum enhancements, staff communications, and program decisions;
  • Guide faculty members to ensure the delivery of well-structured and challenging daily lessons, effective homework assignments, and valuable after-school tutoring sessions;
  • Cultivate a sense of dedication among staff towards achieving the school’s mission and goals;
  • Ensure teachers uphold high standards for student performance, including adherence to special education accommodations and Individualized Education Program (IEP) modifications

School Culture Leadership

  • Establish a vibrant and demanding school atmosphere that cultivates joy and excellence;
  • Promote uniformity in academic and behavioral standards throughout the school community;
  • Work closely with school personnel to nurture students’ academic and socio-emotional growth;
  • Uphold and reinforce traditions and ceremonies that align with the school’s college-focused mission, consistently reinforcing them across grade levels and over time;
  • Assist staff in facilitating the seamless operation and success of after-school enrichment initiatives.

Family and Community

  • Maintain regular communication with families to keep them engaged and responsible for their children’s progress, and provide updates on school policies, excursions, and activities;
  • Address family inquiries and concerns in a timely and efficient manner.


  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university
    State certification in Administration/Supervision as defined by the Tennessee Department of Education
  • Minimum 5 years of effective teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 years leadership experienced in education
  •  Excellent planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience using data analysis to facilitate and support decision making responsibilities
