REPORTS TO: Director of Advancement

WORK HOURS: M-F, 7:45 a.m. – 4 p.m., weekends & evenings as needed

SALARY: commensurate with experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Advancement Specialist is responsible for managing or assisting with events and activities that promote and advance the school. This individual works with all divisions and departments in the school to creatively seek ways to promote and celebrate school programs and achievements in our community. This individual must be a creative problem solver and strategic thinker with the ability to multitask while keeping the school’s brand and image top of mind. The Advancement Specialist is a member of the Advancement Team and reports directly to the Director of Advancement. The Advancement Specialist will be actively involved with a number of events that are in the evening and on the weekends; therefore, the Advancement Specialist must be able to work select evenings and weekends. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Parents’ Association (P.A.)
• Serve as primary contact and liaison to P.A. Board and event chairs
• Assist the P.A. Board in securing and filling all volunteer positions each school year
• Assist event chairs in the planning, promoting, and successful completion of annual P.A. events, including the Charleston Wrap fundraiser, Spirit Wear sales, Trivia event, and Anchor Auction.
• Anchor Auction

  • Manage data entry and inventory control, as well as all other auction data needs
  • Oversee creation, approval, printing, and distribution of all event materials
  • Assist chairs with event logistics, including set-up and break-down

Event Management
• Assist with planning events, including—but not limited to—Lead Donor Party, Grandparents’ Day, Honors Chapel, and Graduation

Digital Marketing
• Prepare a variety of posts for social media, including photos, videos, parent resources, and reminders
• Help update school website content
• Design advertising pieces, including print and digital
• Oversee media placements
• Take photos and produce videos to capture the essence of the community and help tell the many great stories at GSL

Miscellaneous
• Perform related duties as assigned
• Serve on a school committee as assigned
• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
• Demonstrates strong writing and editorial skills
• Excellent photography, videography and design skills
• Strong networking, relationship-building, time management, and organizational skills
• Works under pressure and meets deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• Strong team player; collaborates well with others
• Creative, collegial, approachable, and eager to assist and approach tasks (occasionally outside of the job description) with humor, warmth, and enthusiasm for the greater good of the school
• Demonstrates a commitment to empathy, self-control, integrity, embracing diversity, and grit
• Excellent computer proficiency

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field required
• Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum 7 years experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism
• Experience with independent/private schools preferred
• Ability to work in fundraising databases (i.e. Raiser’s Edge) preferred but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Able to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
• Able to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Able to talk, listen, and speak clearly in person and on phone
• Must successfully complete and maintain CPR and first-aid certification
