Guest Teacher Roles and Responsibilities
XTH’s Guest Teacher (substitute teacher) provides coverage if a teacher is out of class on any given day. Responsibilities include:
- Implement and adapt the teacher’s long-term ELA lesson plans, aligned with Crosstown High’s PBL/CBL model and state standards.
- Facilitate daily instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis while providing meaningful feedback on student work.
- Create and maintain a respectful, engaging classroom environment that supports literacy growth and student voice.
- Accurately record attendance and track student participation, performance, and classroom dynamics.
- Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to ensure students receive appropriate interventions and accommodations. Strong communication skills.
- Uphold school policies, values, and culture while contributing positively to the Crosstown High community.
Qualifications
The strongest candidates will have the following skills and experiences:
- Experience in ELA content teaching
- A pleasant, welcoming, and professional demeanor
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
- Ability to keep records (attendance) and notes of student performance
- Commitment to instruct students according to the teacher’s lesson plans
Education and Experience
- At a minimum, an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college/university
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Previous experience as an ELA teacher or guest teacher/substitute teacher is preferred
