Position Summary

The Science Teacher at Memphis Business Academy (MBA) serves as a collaborative instructional leader dedicated to fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning. The teacher ensures that all students receive rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction in accordance with Tennessee Department of Education requirements and MBA’s academic and cultural expectations. This role reflects MBA’s commitment to academic excellence, character development, and preparing students for college, career, and life success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Instruction & Co-Teaching Excellence

Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned science instruction in general education classrooms, including co-teaching or small-group support models as appropriate.
Plan and implement lessons that promote scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking.
Differentiate instruction and assessments to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Incorporate technology, lab equipment, and hands-on activities to enhance student learning.
Use formative and summative data to guide instruction and intervention.

Collaboration & Communication

Collaborate with colleagues, including grade-level teams, special education, and support staff, to ensure rigorous, accessible instruction for all learners.
Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and achievements.
Participate in PLCs, MTSS/RTI² meetings, and schoolwide data discussions to support continuous improvement.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support

Maintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environment aligned with MBA’s behavioral expectations and culture.
Support students’ social-emotional growth, curiosity, and engagement in science learning.
Reinforce positive behavior strategies and character development consistent with MBA’s mission.

Professional Responsibilities

Model professionalism, strong follow-through, and reliability consistent with MBA staff expectations.
Attend required MBA and network-wide professional development, including training on science curriculum, co-teaching, and interventions.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all federal, state, and network policies.
Demonstrate alignment with MBA’s mission, vision, and belief in the potential of all students.

Education and Certification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required
Tennessee Professional Educator License with a Science endorsement (preferred).
Eligibility for a Tennessee Professional Educator License (required).
Science or related content area certification (preferred).

Qualifications (Preferred)

Experience teaching Science
Familiarity with Tennessee Academic Standards
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and engage diverse learners.
Experience with co-teaching, lab management, and inquiry-based instructional models.
Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Instruction occurs primarily within science classrooms, labs, and general education settings.
Requires regular use of technology, lab equipment, and mobility throughout the school campus.
Must be able to support students in lab and classroom activities according to safety guidelines.
