Memphis College Preparatory Elementary School opened its doors in August 2010 to an inaugural class of kindergarten students, the college class of 2027. MCP is proud to be a Level 5 Performance School as well as a Reward School in the State of Tennessee for the 2022-2023 School Year. We currently have a 90% Staff Retention Rate.

Our mission is to prepare students in kindergarten through fifth grade with the academic and ethical character foundation necessary to excel in school and in life. Our classrooms are named after colleges because our students are preparing each day to complete their journey to college graduation.

Job Description

Teachers hold the primary responsibility for the implementation of Memphis College Prep selected curriculums. Memphis College Prep seeks teachers who are committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration as part of a grade level and school-wide team. A teacher works relentlessly in his or her aim to see student growth and wants to hone his or her skills as an effective classroom teacher.

Qualifications

  • Drives the Memphis College Prep mission and demonstrates a relentless commitment to the mission of college graduation, beginning in kindergarten.
  • Minimum two years of urban teaching, preferred, and a Tennessee Teaching License.
  • Experienced classroom teacher with demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local average
  • Develops and implements rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans targeted with the end goal of student performance to be at or above grade-level.
  • Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting.
  • Strong ability to complete data analysis of student achievement data.
  • Successful manager of an urban classroom who has used structure, incentives, and high expectations to drive student success.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well in a team, that includes parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Communicates regularly and proactively with scholars, families, and colleagues.
  • Continuously receives and utilizes feedback to make productive changes to instructional practices and overall performance.
  • Completes any administrative requirements on or before given deadlines.
  • Participates in additional activities including Literacy Night, field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year.
