The Granville T. Woods Academy of Innovation is located in Memphis, Tennessee, and serves students grades kindergarten through 8th who are eligible to attend schools in the Shelby County Schools district. GTW’s academic focus is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (“STEM”) which is delivered through a fully integrated Project-Based Learning (“PBL”) environment. Students are engaged and learn through hands-on, interdisciplinary projects that address real-world problems and challenges, transforming students from passive receivers of information into enthusiastic learners, thinkers, and problem-solvers who assume greater responsibility for their learning. Emphasis is placed on the principle that all students will graduate as collaborative, informed, resourceful, and reflective individuals who are high school-ready, college-bound, career-prepared, and community-minded.
Job Description:
- The STEM Teacher at Granville T. Woods Academy of Innovation (GTW) is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student an awareness of the role of technology education. The job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Implement various technology tools for students and teachers.
- Develop and implement a technology integration plan to support STEM initiatives and 21st-century learning.
- Instruct students and teachers in coding, artificial intelligence, website design, and chatbot development.
- Instruct teachers and students in global, digital, and media literacy.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with GTW’s basic instructional philosophy to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Instruct students in the proper use, care, and safe handling of equipment.
- Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records, including attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other record-keeping activities as necessary.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge and experience in artificial intelligence, coding, website design, and chatbot development.
Ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to enhance learning.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Active Tennessee teaching licensure with endorsement that allows teaching middle school and/or specific subject of position
- Have bachelor’s degree or higher.
