Reading Specialist – High School Grades (2024-2025) – High School Grades, Full-time
Description and Vision:
The Soulsville Charter School (TSCS) High School’s Reading Specialist’s primary role is to provide differentiated instruction for high school students; developing readers using the Sonday curriculum Monday-Friday. The specialist is tasked with providing foundational reading skills to enable students to grow, as measured by the Edgenuity assessment, and matriculate to higher level reading classrooms. In addition to this primary responsibility, the specialist will lead Accelerated Reader (AR), serve as a member of the intervention team, provide some push-in support and other assigned duties.
Report To: Director of RTI & Internal Assessments
Responsibilities:
- Reading Classes
- Teach small group sections of Foundational Reading intervention classes (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade groups) using the Sonday curriculum
- Consistently track and use student data to monitor and update reading interventions
- Accelerated Reader (AR)
- Manage the AR program and associated incentive program
- Support staff in managing their classroom libraries using the Alexandria system
- Serve as Intervention Team Member
- Lead the HS dyslexia group
- Lead a HS RTI group
- Other: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree
- Minimum of three years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience, preferably in an upper elementary or middle school setting
- A valid reading specialist certificate strongly encouraged
- Deep knowledge of reading, writing and literacy development
- Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
- Interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring and coaching
- Strong organizational skills
- Familiarity with the implementation of Accelerated Reader, Sonday system and similar school wide reading programs
- Deep understanding of interpreting reading data, and targeting instruction to student reading
levels
