The Soulsville Charter School is seeking great classroom teachers for the 2025-2026 school year who will go the extra mile to ensure that their students achieve at high levels.
We currently offer the following courses to our students:
Middle School (Grades 6-8)
English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Academic Intervention (RTI), Concert Band, Choir, Orchestra, Orff Music, Physical Education, Junior Achievement, SEL, and Exceptional Education. Elementary, middle, or secondary licensure/certification is required. (Alternate route licensure/ certification is possible.)
High School (Grades 9-12)
Math (Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, Integrated Math III, Statewide Dual Credit PreCalculus, Statewide Dual Credit Statistics, AP Calculus), English (I, II, III, and IV, AP Literature, AP Language), Science (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science), Social Studies (World History, AP U.S. History, Statewide Dual Credit American History, Facing History and Ourselves, AP African American History), Music (Band, Percussion, Strings, Choir, General Music), World Languages (Spanish), Exceptional Education, Academic Intervention (RTI), Lifetime Wellness, PE, Graphic Media, Personal Finance, Creative Writing, AP Computer Science Principles, ACT Prep (Junior Seminar), and Postsecondary Prep (Senior Seminar), Dual Enrollment. Subject specific licensure/ certification is required. (Alternate route licensure/certification is possible.)
After beginning in 2005 with sixty sixth graders, TSCS currently has 650+ students enrolled in 6th-12th grades. The school celebrates 100% college acceptance and matching to the postsecondary option of students’ choice for each of its thirteen graduating classes. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, the school has been recognized over the years as one of the most effective charter schools in its district and the state. Located on a unique campus that also houses The Stax Museum of American Soul Music and the Stax Music Academy, TSCS is a vital partner in the effort to impact individuals, a neighborhood, and a city.
POSITION TITLE: Classroom Teacher – The Soulsville Charter School
REPORTS TO: SCHOOL DIRECTOR
POSITION: The Soulsville Charter School, full-time regular exempt
MISSION: The Soulsville Charter School will prepare students for success in college and life in an academically rigorous, music-rich environment.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Classroom Teacher has the primary responsibility for providing direct service to students, consulting with other professionals, and consulting and discussing issues with parents. The teacher plans, delivers, and evaluates instructional outcomes and conducts the research needed to perform the essential functions of the position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain classroom environment with a high degree of discipline and structure.
- Conduct research and learn about current educational trends and research.
- Plan and deliver data-driven instruction using teacher-directed instruction, project-based learning and other methodologies that are appropriate for the students.
- Conduct assessments that are research based and appropriate for the students.
- Provide actionable feedback to students and re-teach as necessary to ensure that the students have mastered the objectives of the lesson.
- Conduct research, read professional literature, and reflect in the subject area of assignment.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with parents of enrolled students.
- Implement the approved course curriculum.
- Implement modifications reflected in a student’s Individualized Education Program as required.
- Collaborate with other school staff to maximize the functions of the position.
- Complete assigned administrative tasks related to these functions.
- Utilize preventive discipline methodology with students.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned by the School Director and other Soulsville Management.
The ideal candidate will have:
- The belief that our mission can and will be accomplished.
- A Bachelor’s degree at a minimum.
- Active Tennessee teaching licensure. (An alternate licensure route is available.)
- Prior experience as a classroom teacher and demonstrated success and ability in subject area.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of best teaching and classroom practices.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple complex tasks within a deadline and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong follow-through skills for completing projects.
