6-12 Math Instructional Coach

As the Math Instructional Coach, this person is responsible for the development and support of all math teachers, the ongoing improvement of the Math Department, and ultimately student outcomes. The Math Coach is responsible for ensuring that the vision for math instruction is aligned to the school’s mission of preparing students for college and life success in an academically rigorous environment. This person also participates as an important member of the whole-school Academics Team.

Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Coach
- Support the development and growth of teachers
- Plan and lead coaching meetings based on teachers’ needs, including co-planning meetings and post-observation debrief meetings
- Provide teachers with feedback on instructional plans, assessments, and data
- Observe lessons regularly and provide teachers with written and in-person feedback and coaching
- As needed, model and or co-teach lessons
- Ensure adaptations to curriculum support students while maintaining the intended rigor and goals of lessons with fidelity
- Provide accountability for teachers to meet school expectations
Math Department Head
- Research and develop vision, goals, and priorities for Math Department
- Plan and lead department meetings
- Ensure vertical alignment of courses with a special focus on college readiness and ACT-alignment
- Promote a collaborative spirit in the Math Department
- Uphold the pillars of 7 instructional practices in the Math Department
- Implement effective internal assessment systems to monitor academic progress, including interim assessments, TNReady, NWEA, weekly/ daily assessments
- Implement effective data analysis of all internal and external assessments
- Maintain calculator inventory and prepare calculators for testing needs
Academics Team Members
- Participate in Academics Team Meetings
- Collaborate with Academics Team to make budgetary decisions
- Support ongoing professional growth of all Academics Team members by sharing best practices and personal practices with one another for the purposes of norming, learning, and improving
- Develop strong external relationships with partner organizations
- Advocate for the instructional health of the school at-large
