Located at the Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, the National Civil Rights Museum (NCRM) offers a poignant and powerful experience. Here’s how you can schedule a meaningful field trip for your students:

THE CIVIL RIGHTS MUSEUM FIELD TRIP GAME PLAN:

 

1. Make group reservations in advance

Groups of 20 or more are eligible for a discounted admission rate, providing a cost-effective way to bring history alive for your students. To secure this discounted rate, reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance. To ensure a smooth planning process, get in touch with the National Civil Rights Museum’s Group Sales Department by emailing groupservices@civilrightsmuseum.org or calling 901-521-9699 ext. 2224.

When reaching out, provide the following information:

  • Total number of tickets requested for Adults, Seniors 65+, and Children 5-17. Children 4 & under are free and do not need a ticket.
  • Requested visit date and time.
  • Group leader contact information, including name and telephone number.
  • Alternate dates and times, in case the requested date is unavailable.

2. Inquire about Guided Tours

Tour guides are a great option to immerse students in museum experiences and gain extra knowledge. The NCRM can arrange tour guide for groups limited to no more than 10 people per tour guide.

Free Admission:

For every 15 paid admissions, receive one complimentary ticket, making the experience even more cost-effective for larger groups. Tour bus drivers get in free with a paid group, ensuring a hassle-free visit for your transportation team.

Guided Tours:

Trained docents are ready to lead your student group on a captivating tour. You can choose the tour that best fits your students’ interests and educational goals. These tours are available for all grades, from pre-K to high school. And here’s the icing on the cake—every student who visits the museum with their class gets a family pass for a free return visit!

👩‍🎨 Self-Guided Tours:

Want to take the lead? You can schedule a self-guided tour, led by you, the amazing teacher! It’s a fantastic option if you prefer not to have a docent or if guided tours aren’t available on your chosen day. 

🚌 Student Ticket Subsidy Program:

Guess what? The Tennessee Arts Commission has your back. They offer arts grants through the Student Ticket Subsidy Program, which can cover the cost of bus transportation for your guided school tour. Free transportation? Yes, please! Just make sure to apply at least 30 days before your tour date.

🖌️Inside Art Adventure:

While guided tours don’t include a visit to Inside Art, you can schedule some time for your students to explore it after their guided tour and art-making activities. It’s an art-tastic experience they won’t want to miss!
