2024-25 SY Dean of Culture, Lower Academy

As a Dean of Culture (“DOC”) of Believe Memphis Academy Charter School (“Believe Memphis Academy” or “the School”), this person will support the academic and operational needs of the School. The DOC will report directly to the Principal, receiving regular feedback and coaching around her or his performance and leadership capacity. The DOC will be responsible for supporting and filling instructional or operational needs of the School in achieving its Mission.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the school’s Mission and vision.
  • A minimum bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree or Specialist degree in education preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working in a high-performing urban public school with at least 3 years of direct teaching experience required.
  • School-based leadership experience preferred.
  • Student data during direct teaching must reflect extremely high student achievement and growth as compared to peers in similar contexts.
  • Holds an unwavering belief in the potential that all students can be successful when given appropriate, responsive supports and an unshakeable conviction that it is our responsibility to ensure children receive those supports.
  • Ability to lead, inspire, support, and coach others to live the Mission of the School.
  • Ability to manage long- and short-term projects with clear deadlines and deliverables.
  • Systems-based thinking mindset, with ability to codify effective practices, habits, and mindsets for others to emulate and implement.
  • Commitment to continuous growth and solutions-based problem solving.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to reflect our values to diverse group of stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Uphold, support, and reinforce school-wide systems to continuously drive toward a strong culture that supports academic achievement in the School.
  • Supports overall culture of School, particularly in high-transition moments such as arrival, lunch/recess, between-class transitions, restroom breaks, and dismissal.
  • Commit to strong communication, collaboration, and partnership with families of the School by soliciting and listening to feedback and continuously inspiring families toward the Vision of the School. The Dean of Culture must see family engagement as a critical part of her/his role and inspire all others of the School to share this mindset.
  • Work with Student Supports Team to provide academic and behavioral supports and interventions for students who need more supports to attain success in the classroom.
  • Directly manage Student Supports Specialists, overseeing their development, execution of responsibilities, and ensuring the team functions at a high-capacity to support the overall Mission of the School.
  • Directly manage a caseload of enrichment teachers by providing direct feedback, coaching, supports, and accountability toward their achievement and connection.
  • Work collaboratively within a team to implement instructional and cultural plans that support the Mission and vision of the School.
  • Demonstrate a Mission-first mindset in executing all responsibilities outlined here and assigned by the Principal to ensure all decisions and actions are rooted in ensuring all students are prepared to excel in high school, thrive and college, and lead lives full of opportunity.
