Classroom Teacher – Vocational CCTE Welding

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The teacher will conduct an instructional program according to the State Board of Education rules as they relate to the full scope of the Welding program being conducted. This position is responsible for the professional instructions designed to provide academic, social, physical, and skills development for students in the subject area. Teach students directly related skills on how to be successful citizens and workers in the 21st century. Prepare students for diverse post-high school education and training opportunities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Creates an educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to supervisor/administrator upon request.
2. Provides students with the skills and knowledge to effectively perform cutting and welding applications used in the advanced manufacturing industry.
3. Instructs students in fundamental safety practices in welding, interpreting drawings, creating computer-aided drawings, identifying and using joint designs, efficiently laying out parts for fabrication, basic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), mechanical and thermal properties of metals, and quality control.
4. Collaborates with cross functional teams to design and implement a vocational program involving lectures, collaborative student discussions, and problem based learning modules for optimal student learning.
5. Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities (earning industry-recognized certifications) to upgrade knowledge.
6. Plans curriculum and develops lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students within state and school requirements based on the educational, physical, and emotional levels of student development.
7. Assists colleagues with CCTE Programs aligned courses with the implementation of effective CCTE practices
8. Teaches the basic concepts of technology skills and knowledge to students, utilizing curriculum designated by Shelby County Schools.
9. Plans and facilitate fall/spring/summer sessions with school-based educators.
10. Collaborates with school-based instructors to develop formative assessments that align with the Tennessee Academic Standards.
11. Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities.
12. Interacts with students on a personal level and understands their learning capabilities.
13. Evaluates each student’s growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught and provides written and oral progress reports to parents/guardians, administrators, and selected staff; administers tests and assessments.
14. Administers industry certification testing in accordance with division testing practices.
15. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, and district and administrative regulations.
16. Sponsors career and technical student organization and tutors students as requested.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a High School diploma or above PLUS five (5) years of full time work experience out of the past eight (8) years. Must also hold certifications directly aligned to the Welding field. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience. Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment. Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards. Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
