The Early Childhood Head devotes full focus and energies to leading all aspects of the Early Childhood division at PDS, including its boys, teachers, curriculum, programs and policies. They evaluate all Early Childhood teachers.

All Early Childhood teachers report directly to the Early Childhood Head. The Early Childhood Head reports directly to the Head of School.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and oversight of the planning and implementation of Early Childhood teaching, learning, and curriculum, ensuring they are aligned with and advance the school’s mission, educational philosophy and principles. Educates Early Childhood faculty and parents on research and trends in Early Childhood education and child-development, including the social, emotional, and spiritual development of Early Childhood boys.

  • Develops and oversees programs that build Christian character and morals, and a spirit of unity, celebration, and joy within the division.

  • Oversees all aspects of an Early Childhood boy’s experience at PDS.

  • Establishes a disciplinary philosophy and disciplinary guidelines for the division and handles disciplinary matters for students in the division.

  • Oversees all Early Childhood logistical issues, including field trips, special programs, attendance, etc.

  • Meets each month with Early Childhood teachers to review the operations, curriculum, performance of boys, and other matters specific to the grade level, and to develop strategies to help Early Childhood boys thrive.

  • Develops meaningful relationships with faculty and students by being actively and visibly involved in the daily happenings within the division.

  • Serves as the initial and primary administrative contact for parents of EC boys.

  • Evaluates all Early Childhood teachers and, in consultation with the Head of School, determines such teachers’ compensation.

  • Leads the faculty recruitment and hiring process for all Early Childhood teachers.

  • Oversees the Early Childhood budget. Reviews and approves/denies requests for the purchase of any Early Childhood instructional materials, resources, textbooks, and other academic or curricular materials.

  • Plays a key leadership role in the admission assessment and selection process of Early Childhood applicants.

  • Coordinates professional development with the Director of Research and Innovation for Early Childhood faculty and staff.

  • Works with the  Director of Research & Innovation to review documentation and records for Department of Education accreditation purposes. Monitors interactions with the PDS Child Development Center faculty and student enrollment to ensure alignment with the educational philosophy, principles, and mission of the school.

  • Perform other leadership duties, including assisting the Director of Research and Innovation in coordinating the New Teacher Mentoring Program.
