Over the weekend, 20 exceptional recipients of the Tennesseans for Quality Early Education (TQEE) 2024 Tennessee Early Educator Awards gathered in Nashville for a well-deserved celebration of their tireless dedication to early childhood education.
The Tennesseans for Quality Early Education (TQEE) is a Memphis-based organization dedicated to advancing high-quality early childhood education policies and practices to ensure a strong foundation for Tennessee’s youngest learners.
These educators do more than just shape their classrooms—they create the spark of curiosity, compassion, and creativity that defines the next generation. To honor their invaluable work, each recipient enjoyed a $1,000 shopping spree at Lakeshore Learning, stocking up on essential teaching tools—from art supplies and STEM kits to books that will soon enrich the learning experiences of Tennessee’s youngest students. But the support didn’t stop there; honorees also received an additional $1,000 to use in any way they chose, recognizing the personal sacrifices and hard work they bring to their classrooms every day.
After instructing the younger group of students for years I decided to challenge myself and chose to tutor adults in reading. This new adventure was scary to me. Until I concluded that my little people were now adults. My tutoring style would be similar. We would teach each other.

This celebration wasn’t just about gifts—it was about recognizing the incredible impact these educators have on our community and our future. Their selection, drawn from a pool of over 1,700 nominations, highlights a commitment to excellence that resonates deeply in Memphis.
