Freedom Prep Academy Charter Schools, a Memphis-based network, prepare all students in grades Pre-K through 12 to excel in college and in life. Freedom Preparatory Academy opened in August of 2009 with a class of 96 6th graders. We now serve over 2300 students in grades PreK-12. Our students have exceeded local and state averages in math and local averages in English language arts on the state exam.

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Instructional Coach serves as an instructional leader and directly supports teachers in developing and honing skills in Classroom Culture and Management, and Instructional Planning and Delivery. They will play a pivotal role in guiding teachers toward success with their students through classroom observations, coaching and feedback, and will also develop and facilitate professional development training programs for K-5 teachers. The Instruction Coach will report to the Head of School.

 

The Instructional Coach will champion our school’s expectations and belief that all of our students will be prepared for success in college and in life, as a result of our rigorous academic program and support. Their vision and expectations are rooted in deeply held values of equity, especially for our predominantly low-income, first-generation college-going, student of color population.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Regularly observe teacher delivering classroom instruction and provide developmentally appropriate coaching via written and oral feedback
Assist teachers in collecting and analyzing student performance data to drive instructional decisions
Provide lesson planning support to teachers, differentiating level of support based on individual needs
Facilitate opportunities for teachers to co-observe master teachers
Plan and lead focus lessons in teachers’ classrooms to model effective practices
Communicate and collaborate with campus instructional and content leaders to align feedback and support for teachers with overall instructional strategy
Develop targeted growth plans for teachers and track and monitor teacher development
Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews and focus group
Create and facilitate professional learning sessions throughout the school year, and during onboarding and summer orientation
Develop individualized training programs and support to meet teacher’s specific needs and grow instructional skills
Maintain records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements
Evaluate professional development program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback
Stay up to date on current trends and best practice in professional learning and development
Manage professional development training budget and expense records
Additional duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year educational institution; Master’s degree preferred
Valid Tennessee teacher certification
At least two years of teaching experience with demonstrated track record of outstanding student achievement
Experience with teacher supervision as grade team lead, department head, mentor, or coach
Strong knowledge of contributing factors that lead to an effective teacher
Experience planning and facilitating professional learning and development for adult learners
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort delivering training to large audiences
Detail-oriented and self-directed with ability to juggle multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously
Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
Growth orientation and demonstrated commitment to learn and develop as a professional
Initiator, problem-solver, and creative thinker with ability to work urgently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
Belief in and commitment to the mission and core value of Freedom Prep Academy
Unwavering belief that every student can and will achieve at high levels when provided with appropriate supports
