SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Strategic Communications Officer is a high-performing visionary responsible for the strategic management of the District’s Communications, Media Relations, Constituent Services, Marketing, and External Relations departments and serves as an integral member of the District’s leadership team. The leader will develop and implement a comprehensive and effective three-year strategy to enhance the visibility and brand of the District through multiple media formats, maximizing the District’s radio and TV stations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Manages a decentralized Communications and Community Outreach team to support the development and execution of District strategies.
  2. Ensures consistent and clear communications to the District’s constituencies focusing on safety, internal communications, media relations, and transparency with the broader community.
  3. Serves as the District’s spokesperson when designated by the Superintendent.
  4. Serves as the Senior Writer for the Superintendent.
  5. Performs additional related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in communications, public relations, public administration or related field with seven (7) years of experience in a top communications, PR, or community outreach role OR Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, public administration or related field with ten (10) years of experience in a top communications, PR, or community outreach role.  Experience in radio and/or television is helpful.

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
